Kim- I read your Question about how to stop your Topiary Plant from blowing over in the wind. If you could Grow your Topiary Plant(s) in a Nursery Container, any size you choose- You can take two such Containers/Same size/Style and Plant one empty Container in the Ground with approx. 1 inch of this container above, Wash in some loose soil around the edges to stabilize this container firmly in the Ground. I use a post hole digger as with it I can dig a round or square hole. In the other container same/style/size Plant your Topiary Plant With good Potting Mix and set this Planted Container down in the inground planted container. If you will place some mulch around the Container no one will ever know it is not a inground planted. Every 2/3 weeks pull the mulch back and turn the planted container 90/180 Degrees so you can break any fine roots that are trying to escape from the drain holes of the Planted Container into the inground Planted Containers drain holes and into the Ground. You plant will not Blow over. If you want to show off in front of your friends, get a Shovel in hand, tell your friends you can have this Plant up on top of the Ground in Approx. 10 or less seconds and you will not disturb one root, bet them $1.00, When they take you up on the bet hand them the Shovel, pull back the Mulch and Lift the Plant above ground, stand back as they may smack your face. The Process is Termed (Pot In Pot) Growing. Best Wishes. PS- It is better for your Plants Root System in Cool and Hot weather. Randy Gibbs in Va. Beach Va.

Dear Kim: I am certain that within seconds the improper response shall come to me...ooops. No I will not say that. You can keep potted topiary from blowing over with a ring around the base a couple inches high. If you are asking about large pieces, we stake them and or concrete the base into the ground.
